Top Mistakes English Speakers Make in Italian (Part 1)
After my last three episodes on How to Move to Italy, so many of you wrote and asked for a video on my tips when learning Italian.
As I say in my intro, Italian is not my native language and I'm not yet fluent but I have lived, worked, had relationships and interviewed hundreds of Italians all over Italy for my TV shows. So hopefully you can find something useful in this list of the top errors we often make when we start speaking this beautiful language. Once I started filming, I found there were more and more grammar mistakes that came to mind so if enough of you enjoy this video, I will put together a Part 2.
Whether you are a beginner, intermediate or advanced student of Italian, I think there are always little mistakes that we can continue to make if no one corrects us. Italians are generally so friendly and welcoming that this can happen to even the most fluent speaker. I was saying phrases incorrectly or not getting the pronunciation right on a particular word for YEARS before some kind friend would confess that I was saying it incorrectly.
I don't believe you have to go to language school for a course or take private Italian lessons if you can't afford the price. There are so many free resources online. Of course, it is always beneficial to be able to speak in a class with a native speaker but there is so much you can learn on your own with videos or textbooks. See my last episode for my tips on how to learn Italian fast before you go to Italy on vacation or to live.
If you are moving to Italy, definitely check out my guide to inspire you, prepare you and comfort you when you're struggling with life as an expat.
